*Award winning Writer & Director.
The short - Oliver is an aspiring screenwriter working very hard every day to write the best material he can, material which he aims to get into the right hands and break the industry. He doesn’t expect success to be given to him, though, and rightly so. Instead, he intends to practice his discipline and deliver thought provoking and well developed material which he hopes will bring a much needed breath of fresh air to the world of moving image production.
The Feature- After having an early interest in photography, Oliver eventually moved into moving image production, working for live broadcast companies BigScreen Media and the UK Entertainment Channel carrying out such roles as producer, director, editor and camera and sound crew. At this time Oliver was on a Media Production course at his local college on the Isle of Wight, a writers island where he had lived his entire life.
During his time at college he made independent films in his own time, studying the craft and perfecting his skills in cinematography and directing, something which he saw as a concrete career path. Oliver’s film-making lead him to become the ‘Anthony Minghella Young Film-maker Of The Year 2010′, an award presented to him by Anthony’s family in a festival to commemorate the late director’s life and achievements. Oliver’s work has been shown at various venues across the island and led to mentions on BBC radio and the BBC website as well as local newspapers and ‘New Talent’ sections of film-making websites. Oliver also had the pleasure of directing a team in a studio based multi-camera shoot, set-up especially for a royal visit by Princess Anne. In 2011 he placed ‘bronze’ in the ‘Philip Wesley Music Video Contest’. He also takes part in local film-making workshops for young children and teenagers, hoping to open the opportunity of this beautiful craft to the younger generations.
Oliver wrote many short scripts from 2009 onward, but had also been writing for most of his life, English Literature being the only subject he seemed to excel in during school. His writing started from a young age, writing short stories when time allowed which eventually lead to daily lyric-writing from age 14 through to the present day, although he tends to focus on his screen-writing now as it is his chosen career path. Although University wasn’t a road he wanted to take, Oliver was shown the brighter side of higher education by his college tutor which eventually lead him onto a writing course at Bournemouth University in 2011. Here he hopes to expand his screen-writing knowledge but also to experience a new walk of life away from his home on the Island.
Oliver tries to write everyday, all year round. He is a strong believer that writing is like any discipline- you need to work hard to perfect it- and although he is still very early on in his career he feels he is on the right track towards a long and deeply fulfilling profession.
“The alphabet is my paint brush and with it I will share my thoughts with the world”- Oliver..
